From Encyclopedia Dramatica

For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

—Luke 12:2-3, KJV

So, yes, it's true. I'm leaving for good this time

There are quite a few lessons to be taken home from this. First and foremost, Daniel Brandt's doctrine of accountability over anonymity is officially horseshit. Make your online activities too easy to track, and you risk being fucked over completely in the real world, particularly when you do things that you aren't necessarily proud of. I'm the guy who smeared my own docs all the over the internet, and it cost me rather dearly. Someone found my page, someone who I would rather have not. Someone with no concept of what a wiki is, nor any idea whatsoever what Encyclopedia Dramatica is about; she reached her own conclusions based upon what she saw. It cost me a job, folks. Even if I did it for the lulz, I'm not laughing now.

In a similar vein, be careful what you associate yourself with. I've always enjoyed Encyclopedia Dramatica - the fact that it is a satire site appealed to my love of humor; the fact that it is a wiki appealed to my intellect and my drive to solve problems; the fact that it is a community appealed to my desire to have like-minded friends and associates. But Encyclopedia Dramatica has a darker side, emphasized by the sheer volume of obscene language and images. The fact is, even if you enjoy these things, they are probably not what you want to be associated with in the real world. Or, at least, they're not what I desired to be associated with.

  • Also, I went back and wiki-linked this, primarily to make it more amusing to myself and to anyone who might read it. But if you're one of the easily offended persons who stalks my pages (and you know who you are), I might ask you not to click those links. Not all of them are clean, or proper. --Blu Aardvark 06:44, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
