Portals are a centralized resource for a particular topic and yet another one of Encyclopedia Dramatica's great ideas that Wikipedia stole, took back in time, and implemented before ED existed, just to spite us. That's OK - you just wait until I have TimeBot finished and we'll show those sons of bitches once and for all. We are currently in the process of converting large and ungainly series templates into a portal-based presentation, both to ease server load due to constantly changing series templates and to allow people passionate about a topic to provide increase coverage on their subject of choice.
The sysop in charge of portals and working as liason with normal users is WhiteMystery. If you want to work on a portal, have an idea for a new portal, or have a suggestion for the general framework, contact him or an ED sysop first and let them know if you need any help with creation. Generally speaking, using one of ED's categories as the backbone for a portal is a good idea.
