I think this is a kickass idea. Our major limititation will be what this version of Mediawiki allows us to do. Later versions can seperate out certain permissions, like the rollback flag, but I'm not sure about 1.10. - You guys should really move on up to 1.13 if you can at all - there are a lot of changes and stuff in there, some of which are to do with vandalbots and edit throttling, etc. You can seriously hang up a wiki running 1.11 if you know what you're at (and I ain't tellin'!). I have a sort of half-baked idea for generating some lulz. I thought maybe we could try doing a 'Troll of the Month' feature to sort of encourage IRL trolling. It'd be a sort of a feature article like TMiL, but put up at the beginning of the month. Anyway, you pick a meme or whatever, and encourage trolls, lurkers and the sort to take it into the real world and show us the results. Especially if there's media coverage. Hey dude, I emailed you but it seems you probably haven't seen it yet. We've got a javascript version of the Rick Astley voter in testing right now for bestactever, working on integrating it with wordpress more readily, skinning it and working out the kinks, but it might be a go for sure! --Vote4Rick

I figured MTV might try to "rig" the vote or something, which is why I've started campaigning to get users to send in screenshots of votes that they've done so at least we have a record of voting attempts at least. We're nearly at 6 million which is great - the hope is that once this idea starts spreading more than we'll have tens of millions of screenshotted votes so it will be hard for MTV to rig the event, especially if we keep on top of our methods like we have been.

Thanks for the offers, I nearly sent an email to Rick's manager earlier this morning, I wasn't sure if it would be well received though, so I thought it might be best just to leave it and see if they can come by the info secondhand somehow.

Also, since the new javascript version is in the works, I might get my social media buddies to push another story, see if we can get it frontpaged on Digg again. But for right now, the main aim is to get it looking good. --Vote4Rick
