The dude of the cigarette (El wey del cigarro in spanish) is an internet cultural phenomenon born in 2005 at Meristation Forums, a Spanish video gaming site. Many Meristation users consider the dude of the cigarette their greatest idol.
One day, a user known as Repenta2002 posted a photo of one of his friends on the Off-Topic Forum of Meristation. He needed a cigarette that he was holding in the photo erased with Photoshop so he could show the image to his parents, who didn't know he smoked. In the original photo, Repenta's friend smiled together with a girl with huge, fat arms, while he held an alcoholic drink in his right hand and a cigarette in his left hand. Moreover, an opportunist appeared behind the couple with another cigarette in his hand and a really funny face, with his mouth wide open as possible.
Two users agreed to erase the cigarette, but many other Meristation users began to shop the photo. Repenta whined for the topic to be blocked, and the administrators complied, deleting the original photo. This is the reason why many people who don't know the dude of the cigarette's story confuse the dude of the cigarette with "his friend", the more popular dude behind the dude of the cigarette.
Although the original photo was lost, photoshoppers make more and more photoshops every day. The phenomenon transcended Meristation Forums and expanded over numerous forums, blogs and e-mails, like other famous internets victims like Star Wars Kid, Moshzilla or dog-shit-girl; but the real dude of the cigarette and his partners haven't been informed of their internets fame yet.
