Occasionally a person may find an article that they deem inappropriate for Encyclopedia Dramatica. These people frequently make mistakes in their attempts to have an article removed. This document describes the deletion process.

Deletion Policy

On Encyclopedia Dramatica, much like on most other wikis, only sysops can delete articles, images, or other content. As a general rule, ED does not delete articles that are relevant to our core purpose of documenting internet memes, drama, and culture.

As per our terms of service, as well as the US laws protecting the freedom of press, the "offensiveness" of an article does not matter as far as delete-or-don't. If you find an article offensive, it probably means your sensibilities, sense of humor, or opinions differ than that displayed in the article, which does not indicate an actual problem with the article itself.

Deletion Procedure

We try to deal with issues as quickly as possible. At ED, admins are encouraged to act intelligently and independently, and so, for example, a poor article will be deleted not by VfD, but through a process known as "pressing the delete button". If your shitty article is removed in this manner, you may whine to any one of the sysops, but odds are good your article will stay removed.

Removal Requests

Encyclopedia Dramatica does not have a specific procedure for article removal, mainly because we loathe bureaucracy and have no desire to host unfunny shit like Wikipedia's AFD. If. however, you feel you have a strong case for an article's removal, there are several options you may choose

The Right Way

  1. You may contact an administrator and petition the article's removal.
  2. If the article is utter shit, you may tag the article with {{baleetplz}}.
  3. If you have legal or other significant concerns, you may send your request to Encyclopedia Dramatica's support address, at support@encyclopediadramatica.com

The Wrong Way

  1. Blanking pages. The fastest way to get the middle finger is to change the content of an article to nothing. This is extremely easy for a SysOp to fix, and will earn you a hit with the banhammer.
  2. Adding deletion templates to good article. This, too, will earn you a hit with the banhammer.
  3. Threats. You may find it surprising to hear that ED is familiar with threats of all kinds. White Hat threats, lawsuit threats, rape threats, FBI threats, death threats. They don't work. Plus you lose any sympathy you might have had, and
  4. Sucking up. This is annoying as shit. Fucking stop, bix nood.
